The Jewish Community Foundation of the West offers a variety of funds designed to meet the charitable interests of individuals and families:
- Endowment Funds
Endowments are permanent funds that allow you to support your favorite charities or causes in perpetuity. You can establish a Restricted Endowment to support specific charities or special areas of interest. Or you can establish an Advised Endowment, where your children, family members or others you name decide each year how to distribute fund proceeds. The minimum amount to establish an endowment fund is $10,000.
- Donor Advised Philanthropic Funds
These are non-permanent funds that allow you to distribute any part or all of the proceeds at any time. Donor Advised Philanthropic Funds provide a way to easily budget and manage annual charitable giving. The minimum amount to establish a donor advised philanthropic fund is $1,000.
- Bequests/Long-term Planned Giving
Establishing a bequest has the dual benefit of creating an ongoing charitable gift stream to the charity of your choice while sheltering parts of your estate from federal and state taxes. Name the Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, trust, estate or in your life insurance policy. You can also name the Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401 (k), KEOGH or other retirement plan. The proceeds can be designated to establish a permanent endowment fund.
Contact your estate planning attorney and explain that you would like to leave a legacy. Your bequest can be written into your Will or a Revocable Living Trust. The Foundation and your attorney can assist you with the appropriate language to ensure that the intent of the endowment is carried out according to your wishes.
If you would like to remember JCFW in your will or living trust, please use our legal name, Jewish Community Foundation of the West. Your attorney may find the following language helpful:
"I hereby give, devise, and bequeath ______________ (a dollar amount, or all or a percentage of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) to the Jewish Community Foundation of the West, now or formerly in the city of Sacramento, 2014 Capitol Avenue, in the state of California, for its general purposes."
The I.R.S. recognizes the Jewish Community Foundation of the West as a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our federal tax I.D. number is 68-0445835
